July 10, 2016The annual Premier Basketball Super 64 National Championship was played
July 5 th – July 8 th in Frisco, Texas. The 256 team (representing 20 states) field was divided into 7 different brackets based on age and/or competition level. 200+ college coaches witnessed the action.
The TEXAS bracket was the top grouping in the event and had some of the traditional attendees such as Texas Elite adidas Prime, San Antonio Finest Cee Lou, TeamXpress Black, NLHA, Urban Heroes Elite, Lady Jets Elite, FURY (Tx), Texas Fire, Arizona Elite, AIA, AD Elite, Minnesota Fury, and Texas Elite adidas GATA.
There were some newcomers that brought talent to the pool as well: Team Arizona Red, Germantown Lady Panthers, Flight Elite, Della Lamb, Michigan Storm, and I-90 Elite.
The final four of the Texas bracket was Texas Elite adidas Prime vs Lil Ladyz and PWP Gill vs AAO Banshees 2017.
After a competitive first 10 minutes, Texas Elite adidas Prime pulled away from the Lil Ladyz and won handily. In the PWP Gill and AAO Banshees 2017 game, PWP pulled away early and then AAO battled back to make things interesting late, but ultimately PWP came away with the W.
The final of Texas Elite adidas Prime and PWP Gill was also tightly contested early. PWP showed multiple defenses and the ability to shoot the 3-ball well off of ball screens and also through penetration and kick in transition. Texas Elite adidas Prime owned the glass and turned up the defensive pressure and by halftime had a double-digit lead.
The second half started off with a quick run by PWP Gill resulting in a timeout called by Texas Elite adidas Prime. A simple adjustment out of the timeout to go “small” – two guards, two guard/forwards, and a post led to a change in momentum. At this point Texas Elite adidas Prime pulled away for good. There was a comfortable lead the rest of the way to the final buzzer.
