Many college prospects from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana came together for the Dan Olson ESPNW Hoopgurlz Exposure Plus Showcase in Houston, Texas on Sunday March 6, 2016. Numerous top scouting services in the country attended the event, including Premier Basketball Report (represented by Jerry Simmons), Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and ESPN Hoop Gurlz (represented by Dan Olson), Blue Star (represented by Mark Lewis), Athlete Scouting Services (represented by Harry Elifson), John Lucas (represented by LaQuita Thompson), and Pass Tha Ball (represented by Marissa Holbert). The event included three split skills sessions led by highly respected trainer Shane Wagner and open run style games. Here is a recap of some of the standouts from this laden with talent three-session event:
Session One
Session One was loaded with future college prospects from the 2018-2021 classes. 2020 6’3”
Deyona Gaston stood out by combining her elite size, athleticism, and skill. Gaston has a fluid stroke out to the three-point line, is a very strong ball handler, and finishes with explosion to the basket. Gaston is an early entry Top 5 National Player in the 2020 class. 2018 5’9”
Raija Todd showed terrific lead guard skills with her ability to penetrate, pass, and shoot the ball with range. Todd’s rugged, on-ball defense will serve her well at the next level. 2018 5’8”
Joanne Allen-Taylor displayed explosion off the dribble with a nice ability to rise on her midrange pull-up. Allen-Taylor is a terrific ball handler whose combination of shooting and explosion will make her a very tough cover in the college game. 2020 6’0”
Aaliyah McDonald presented a terrific ability to rebound and use either hand to dribble into transition. McDonald has very good vision and did a great job of passing the ball up for easy transition looks. McDonald’s combination of rugged rebounding and passing will serve her well throughout her high school career and beyond. 2020 5’7”
Taylor Morgan showed a knock down shot from the three and explosiveness off the dribble. Morgan did a nice job using her vertical on her midrange jumper. She has a very bright future with continued development. 2021 5’9”
Peyton Andrews demonstrated her lead guard skill set and good size. She has very good handles, a pull-up jumper, and complements that with a strong body that finishes through contact. Andrews will be a player to watch for years to come.
Session Two
Session Two was loaded with 2017 and 2018 college prospects. 2018 5’11”
Mikayla Schenck showed a terrific stroke from the three, including hitting five in a row during one of the games. Schenck’s combination of size and skill will serve her well at the next level. 2018 6’2”
Catherine Reese is an electric athlete; she is consistently the first player down the floor in transition. She is a relentless rebounder and automatic from 15-feet and in. Reese is a high level prospect in the 2018 class. 2017 5’9”
Kianna Suber continued her strong play; she has a terrific vertical leap and uses the euro very well. Suber is an improving ball handler and midrange jump shooter. Her and twin sister
Brianna have extremely high ceilings at the next level. 2018 5’8”
Jasmine Smith is a smooth lead guard with no visible weaknesses. Smith can finish with either hand, has a terrific pull-up jumper off the bounce, and is a very good passer off the dribble. Smith’s overall efficiency makes her a terrific college prospect. 2018 5’11”
Quincy Noble is a high level prospect with a huge upside. Noble shot the ball from the three with ease, showed nice handles, and finished through contact, which I have not really seen before. Noble is an ascending player whose game translates well to the next level. 2018 6’0”
Jhakya Dilworth is a superb athlete with improving skill; she excels in transition and uses her body well to finish through contact. She is also a terrific rebounder. Both Jhakya and twin sister
Keziah will be hot commodities in the 2018 class. 2017 5’8” Lousiana Tech commit
Madison Washington is a lefty with a smooth stroke from the three. An adept ball handler with good vision, Washington will be a very good fit at LA Tech.
Session Three
2019 6’4”
Lanetta Williams is an electric post with outstanding skill for such a young prospect. Williams is a lefty with profound rebounding skills, who is comfortable handling the ball in transition. She used her elite vision to find open looks for teammates off the dribble when in transition. Williams’ ability to use her length and athleticism made her an almost impossible cover for much of the session. 2019 6’2”
Ashley Daniel is a terrific athlete with size; she finished through contact and was successful in getting to the free throw line and converting with makes. 2018 5’9”
Brooke Bigott is a great passer with elite vision, who used both hands well when handling the ball. She showed a tremendous all-around game, which will serve her well moving forward. 2018 6’0”
Marissa Hart's combination of size and skill allow her to handle the ball well and elevate over her opponents on the midrange jump shot. Hart is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor. 2018 5’7”
Jade Bradley is a natural basketball player with very good athletic ability. Bradley is like a freight train going to the hole. She did a terrific job rebounding and pushing the ball in transition. 2019 5’3”
Ta’Niya Jackson is an electric athlete at the point guard position. Jackson pushes the ball exceptionally in transition and is able to finish in traffic. She is a terrific ball handler who can score with elevation off the dribble. 2019 5’3”
Madison Griffon is a shifty ball handler with a great change of direction and speed with the ball. A seasoned veteran with the way she feeds the post and wings the ball, Griffon is the type of point guard others love to play with.
