The DFW Elite Marchfest was held on March 28-29, 2015 at the Duncanville Fieldhouse and surrounding gyms. Teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arizona attended this annual club season kick-off event. Below are some key takeaways from this tournament:
DFW T-Jack has a loaded backcourt offense, led by DFW staples 2016 Baylor commit Calveion “Juicy” Landrum and 2017 Alexis Morris. The two provide leadership and play making ability that reminds many observers of the glory days with DFW T-Jack. 2016 Arlieshya McElroy and 2017 Chennedy Carter are ultra-competitors who can take over a game at any time, and throw in 2018 Zarielle Green—who is primed for a break out summer with her length and shot making ability—and DFW T-Jack is ready to make headlines throughout this club season. An under-the-radar player on this team is 2016 Ria Gulley from San Antonio Clark High School. She is a strong and heady player with a nice stroke from deep.
Texas Elite adidas Franey got a BIG addition with 2016 6’5” forward Brittany Brewer from Abilene Wylie High School. Brewer is a long, athletic lefty forward who can score from both the high post and low post. On the defensive end, she gives Texas Elite adidas Franey a shot blocker and rebounding presence. Led by 2017 Lexi Gordon, 2017 Lauren Heard, 2017 Trinity Oliver and 2018 Tatum Veitenheimer, Coach Bill Franey’s team has consistently played up in the top divisions over the past two club seasons, and this year’s team will prove to be no different.
AD Elite will make some noise this club season with the team Stephen King has assembled throughout the Central Texas area. 2016 point guard Jaelyn Richard-Harris of Dekaney High School and 2016 forward Jasmine Williams of Cypress Woods High School will lead the way for this young team. Richard-Harris is a feisty point guard who plays with toughness and can knock down the big shots, while Williams is a hard nose defender with a college ready body who makes plays on both ends of the floor. 2017 Taylor Green of Georgetown High School and 2017 Ariana Whitfield of Cypress Ranch High School will give Coach King added backcourt depth, while 2017 Ariel Starks of A&M Consolidated High School will help spread the floor with her high-percentage shooting. 2017 Laura Dalton of Westbury Christian and 2017 Jennifer Parker of Derouse High School will hold down the lane for AD Elite this year.
The Nation is a young and restless team, made up of four 2019s, four 2018s, and one 2017. Quinton Green’s impressive team may grow from some losses this season, as they will be taking on the big girls in the top divisions of the majority of the tournaments they play. The talent starts with 2019 6’2” wing Nyah Green and 2019 point guard Kennedy Tucker. The two young ladies have played together over the last couple club seasons and are a deadly 1-2 combination. Green’s ability to create and knock down the open shot is impressive, while Tucker plays like a veteran point guard running the show and making plays when the team needs it. The front line of 2017 6’2” Temi Alao of Allen High School, 2018 6’2” Yo’Myris Morris and 2019 6’2” Elizabeth Scott is long, athletic and very active.
Young talent is abundantly on the horizon with DFW Elite 2018 Blue’s Lauren “Lolo” Davenport, Missouri Valley Magic’s 2019 Hayley Frank, Oklahoma Select 2019’s Ginger Reese, South Texas Hoyas White’s 2020 Alani Fluker and Lady Big Dogs’ 2020 Sarah Andrews. Davenport demonstrated a deep three-point shot at Marchfest, hitting numerous beyond the NBA line and was very aggressive on the boards. Frank is a 6’1” forward who also dominates the boards, can knock down the long jumper and can run the point-forward. Reese is a 6’0” forward who creates second opportunities for her team due to her hustle, athleticism and determination. Fluker is a 6’2” athletic forward who is still learning the game, but has a very bright future. Finally, Andrews is an electric point guard who exhibited her advanced offensive skills in breaking down defenders and making big shots.
