On Friday, March 13th, the University of Miami and Head Coach Katie Meier got great news from across the world when Laura Cornelius from the Netherlands gave her commitment. Cornelius had many recruiters show interest over the last two years, but it came down to Iowa State University and the University of Miami after taking visits in early 2015.
When Cornelius steps on campus in the fall of 2015, she will bring a long resume of international play from the Netherlands. Laura really made a name for herself in the 2013 FIBA U19 Championship and European U18 Championship.
After a tour of BCS schools in late spring of 2014, Cornelius gave Gonzaga University her verbal commitment, but soon after she tore her ACL. With this injury, Cornelius reclassified as a 2015 recruit and reopened her commitment as she worked hard to get back onto the court.
Cornelius joins 6'3” post Zada Williams in the Hurricanes 2015 recruiting class and gives Coach Meier a playmaking point guard who knocks down big shots and will contribute immediately. Along with her shot making, Cornelius may be one the best passers off the drive in the 2015 class.
