The first day of the Yellow Rose of Texas displayed a lot of upcoming talent in all divisions.
We started off the day watching Elite III (TX) National’s 2018
Ta’Naiya Norwood, a 6’0’’ lengthy and athletic power forward that can get any rebound she wants, and with the ability to finish at the rim. She finished her first game leading all scorers with 27 points. Texas Elite Adidas Christian Maroon had several players, but the one that really stood out was 2018
Cielo McClain, even more so on the defensive end. Her size and strength allows her to guard at different positions, and while she is aggressive, she is does a good job of staying poised during crunch time.
Our DIME DROPPER OF THE DAY went to
Cheyenne Grubbs, a 2017 point guard from Texas Power Elite Basketball Club. She is an excellent floor leader with the ability to make advanced passes to her teammates, a very court savvy player.
2019
Makayla Coy standing at 5’10’’, made the PLAY OF THE DAY with an AND-1 underneath the basket to inch her team closer to a victory. She is a physical guard with a nice touch off the mid range jumper, and is very versatile on both ends of the floor.
Texas Elite Adidas Christian 9th GATA VS. HG Elite Watts was our GAME OF THE DAY. The GATA group came back from a 20 point deficit to defeat HG Elite 51-48.
There was a lot of young skill and talent for the first day of the tournament.
SUNDAY - APRIL 17th, 2016
Day two of games of the Yellow Rose of Texas started bright and early morning at 8:00 a.m. The players and teams showed up early and eager to broadcast their skills to coaches, their teammates, and fans.
The top GAME OF THE DAY was held at the Round Rock Sportsplex at 11:30 on court 3, where the Louisiana Lightning Boltz and Texas Elite Adidas Christian 9
th GATA were battling from start to finish. This game was filled with energy and passion, displayed by both teams. There were multiple lead changes over the course of the game, but with about 6:00 remaining in the second half, 9
th grade GATA started pulling away, and the game ended with a score of 56-44. Both teams are young, and have a lot of basketball ahead of them, and are definitely teams of which to take notice.
The DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE DAY goes to
Christian Leanord, a 2017 guard who plays with Texas Evolution Elite. Leanord was very quick, and displayed that she could play solid on ball defense, while staying with her man.
Sunday’s TOP PERFORMER was 2017 5’10 guard
Noel Pratts with Texas Elite Adidas 832. She was a quick combo guard who constantly blew by defenders with ease and proceeded to finish at the rim, or with a pull up jumper. She contributed on the defensive end as well, getting many steals which led to transition offense for her team.
The DIME DROPPER OF THE DAY goes to 2017 5’7 shooting guard
Savannah Ralph. She distributed countless crisp passes up the length of the court, and also made a couple no look passes which confuse defenses. Ralph was able to read the defense, and make passes to her teammates accordingly.
The PLAY OF THE DAY goes to Madison Lane with Team Strive White, who won the game for her team by making a contested layup right at the buzzer. Jaws dropped all over the gym as this shot went into the basket, and Lane herself couldn’t seem to believe it.
