Congratulations to the 2015-2016 McDonald's All-Americans!
The McDonald’s All-American committee annually chooses 24 well deserving players from all over the country to represent their respective high schools, club teams, future colleges, and communities in a week of practices, community service, fellowship, skills contests and, ultimately, the high school All-Star game of All-Star games.
The inaugural McDonald’s All-American Girls Game was in New York City at the famous Madison Square Garden in 2002, with this year's festivities taking place in Chicago. The Powerade Jam Fest was held Monday at The Chicago Theatre and the game will be played Wednesday at the United Center at 5:30pm (CT) and will air on ESPNU.
On Monday night Amber Ramirez (TCU) won the 3-Point Contest over finalists Destiny Slocum (Maryland) and Aaliyah Wilson (Arkansas).
In the Legends and Stars Shootout, the winners were Team Wiggins, including star athletes such as Amber Ramirez (TCU), Jayson Tatum (Duke), and Candice Wiggins (pro and McDonald’s All American and Stanford alum).
Tuesday consisted of team practices, scrimmages, media day, and the McDonald’s All-American banquet including awards and a ring ceremony. Crystal Dangerfield (UCONN) of Murfreesboro, TN was named Player of the Year.
This year six players from the state of Texas were chosen: Plano West’s Natalie Chou (Baylor), Flower Mound’s Lauren Cox (Baylor), Cedar Hill’s Joyner Holmes (Texas), Duncanville’s Cierra Johnson (Louisville), Cy Wood’s Nancy Mulkey (Oklahoma), and Wagner’s Amber Ramirez (TCU).
Overall, the 24 players represent 14 states for this year’s 2016 teams. These players are headed to the next level to represent Notre Dame, Maryland, Baylor, Kentucky, Connecticut, Texas, Louisville, Oklahoma, TCU, Arkansas, Harvard, Stanford, Ohio State, and Duke.
