The Nike Girls EYBL invaded Hampton, Virginia this weekend to kick off the 2016 season. With three days of action, there was plenty of talent in the 17U and 15U Nike Girls EYBL which was played at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. Some teams took hold of division leads while others have work to do at the second Nike Girls EYBL stops, Chicago and Tennessee. Here are some of the standouts for the event:
2017 6’1 Rennia Davis- Essence Purple/ TipHayes3
Davis shot lights out all weekend leading Essence Purple to an undefeated weekend and vaulting them to top of Angel McCoughtery Divison. Her ability to consistently knock down the three opened up her ability to create off the catch which put pressure on opposing defenses. Her ability to guard the ball, jump the passing lanes, and help on the boards has coaches waiting in line for her services.
2017 5’7 Alexis Morris- DFW TJack Elite
Against Tennessee Flight Silver, DFW TJack Elite got down early and Morris put the team on her back to will them to the victory in one of the best individual performances of the weekend. Morris has the ability to create off the bounce to score or get others involved in one of the best backcourts in the country.
2017 6’0 Evina Westbrook- Cal Stars Nike Elite
Westbrook is a name I had heard, but hadn’t been able to watch live until this weekend and the young lady didn’t disappoint. She makes plays all over the floor and has the ability to take over a game. Her skill set will allow her to play all three perimeter positions in college.
2017 6’1 Jinaya Houston- All Iowa Attack
Houston, who is committed to the University of Iowa, has the ability to score facing up or with her back to the basket. She rebounds well on both ends of the floor and can guard multiple positions. She has the chance to be a diaper dandy for Hawkeyes when she steps on campus.
