On Tuesday night February 10, 2015, Lexi Gordon—the 6’0” sophomore from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, TX—recorded 47 points to help her team to a 63-52 win over district rival Haltom High School. L.D. Bell is 16-14 for the season and 5-6 in district play; they are locked in the fourth place spot in District 7-6A. For the season, Gordon is averaging 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, and holds a personal record with 57 three-point shots made this year. She can play any position on the floor; as an offensive scoring machine, she is a difficult match up for opponents. Furthermore, Gordon’s size and presence in the paint make her a tough defensive threat.
Premier Basketball Report’s Texas Scout Jason Key gives a quick evaluation on this gifted player:
“Lexi Gordon is a natural scoring wing whose all-around game separates her from the rest. Lexi is a skyrocketing prospect in the 2017 class.”
Gordon is sure to make personal strides in college as well; though she is young, her overall skill package is advanced. She has ideal size, length, athleticism and work ethic. Her game is strongly built on fundamentals and she is the first to get to the boards on both sides of the floor. Her beautiful release will make her an ideal 2-guard at the college level, but her strong penetration skills make her just as effective as a 3-guard.
Lexi competes in the summer with Texas Elite adidas Franey. Head Coach Bill Franey gives a thorough and precise assessment of his star athlete:
“Lexi is a perfect example of a young lady who works hard at her game. She spends hours and hours in the gym shooting the ball from all angles at game speed. As a young player from a basketball family, she learned the fundamentals of a shot as a young player and then spent time in the gym to become a great shooter. Hard work and persistence does pay off. She is also a 4.0 student.”
As a national-level recruit, Lexi Gordon is already making headlines now, and will be sure to gain substantial recruiting attention as she matures her game over the coming years and prepares for collegiate play.
