Head Coach Brad Gibson lead his high octane Alba-Golden High School Lady Panthers to a perfect 14-0 district record and an impressive 35-4 2014/2015 season record overall. The are a highly prolific team on the offensive end of the floor, scoring over 100 points one game, over 90 points one game, 80 points or more four times this season and 70 points or more nine times. The Lady Panthers’ regional semifinal game against the talented Bowie High School led them to a 59-53 win and an advancement to the regional finals, where they lost to 3A State Champion Sunnyvale High School 68-55.
The team was led this year by 6’0” senior guard/post combo Jordan Dawson, who has committed to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. In the game against Bowie, she recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Dawson is a skilled, versatile athlete who can play anywhere. She has a smooth, effective shot from three-point range, but is also dominant in the paint. Her rebounding game is superlative and she is a smart team-oriented defender. She is a perfect fit at Southeastern Oklahoma and should be an immediate contributor there next year.
Another significant player is 5’5” junior guard Caitlin Lennon. She gives 100%, translating into productivity for her team. In the game against Sunnyvale, she had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Lennon has a great first step and attacks the basket well. On the other side of the court, she is an incredible ballhawk defender. She may lack in size, but more than makes up for it in talent and determination.
Senior guard Macie Arrington also played a great game in the regional semifinals. Her stats reveal her ability to perform all over the court; she had 13 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals against Bowie. Also worth noting is the future possibilities of sophomore wing Shelby Wright. She can score, has an excellent block out technique, which enables her to rebound effectively, and values the fundamentals of the game. Coach Gibson returns an excellent group next year and the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers are likely to continue to make headlines.
