The Wichita Falls Rider Lady Raiders currently hold a 26-3 season record and are 12-0 in district play. Some of their noteworthy wins this season were against Life School Oak Cliff, Bowie High School and Mansfield Timberview High School. The 47-43 win over Timberview earlier in the season was a big turning point for this team.
Lead by Coach Ramsey Ghazal, the Lady Raiders are a dynamic team with several star athletes. Mercedes Brooks, a 6’0” junior guard is the most prominent and game-altering player on the team; her overall season stats are impressive with 18.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals per game. She was All-Tournament at the Burleson Centennial and Fantasy of Lights tournaments, and claimed the MVP honors at the Caprock Invitational in Lubbock. Her talent has not gone unnoticed, as she is being actively recruited by colleges such as Kansas State, Louisville, Arkansas, Iowa State and Texas Tech, to name a few.
Ashley Reid is another standout player for the Lady Raiders; this 5’6” junior guard currently records 14.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Her endless energy and determination distinguish her from other players, and led her to receive All-Tournament honors at both the Burleson Centennial and Caprock events. Like her teammate, she is drawing recruiting attention from top Division I schools like Rice, Tulsa, North Texas, and Louisiana Monroe.
Abreanna Harris is 6’0” strong junior post who goes to work in the paint; she knows how to make use of space, and has a strong power move from the block. She is averaging 10.9 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also was recognized as an All-Tournament selection at the Burleson Centennial and Caprock Tournaments. Harris has received recruiting notice from Louisiana Lafayette and Midwestern State University.
During the three years that Brooks, Reid and Harris have played together on Varsity, the team holds an incredible 83-14 record. They were Area Champions last season with a 27-7 record, and Bi-District Champions in 2012-2013 with a 30-4 record. They have a great chance to make a deep playoff run this season, with another chance next year as seniors to leave their mark.
